China Three Gorges University is located in Yichang City, Hubei province, China. The university is located at the mouth of the Xiling Gorge, one of the Three Gorges.

The campus occupies 200 hectares, and the total building area comprises 830,000 m2 (8,934,046 sq ft). The libraries consist of 2,000,000 volumes.

CTGU is a comprehensive university established on June 29, 2000 after the merger of the University of Hydraulic and Electric Engineering at Yichang, Hubei Sanxia University, and a medical college founded in 1923.

China Three Gorges University CTGU) has a history of establishment in 1923 and experienced the construction of "Project 211". Having been approved by the Ministry of Education, CTGU is a comprehensive University, which comprises the former University of Hydraulic & Electric Engineering/Yichang and Hubei Sanxia University (Medical School of the Three Gorges College), and is one of the key Universities which are being constructed in Hubei Province. Besides CTGU is one of the first Universities which is conferred the qualification of recruiting foreign students. CTGU consists of 20 teaching units, 18 programs for postgraduate students, 24 more specialties for Master program and Doctoral program and Doctoral program, which are under construction. There are 48 specialties for undergraduate students in 8 fields, such as medicine, science, engineering, arts, management, economics, law and pedagogy. The university covers 220 hectors of land. There are 1,630,000 volumes of books and periodicals in the central library. There are total 24,000 students, including all undergraduate, postgraduate and foreign students. There are more than 11,000 adult students.

CTGU has over 1,500 full-time teachers, including more than 800 Professors and Associate Professors. More than 600 teachers have a Masters Doctoral Degree, and over 40 teachers are youth scientific and technical experts who greatly contribute to the country and enjoy the government allowance of the State Council.

The university has 9 provincial or ministerial key disciplines (key laboratories). Now the frameworks of 5 discipline groups, i.e., life science & biological technology, hydroelectric energy, hazard protection and environment, information technology and control engineering, and Three Gorges culture and tourism have been set.

The university is located in Yichang City, Hubei Province, where there are world famous Three Gorges Dam, Gezhouba Dam, and Qingjiang Geheyan Water Power Plant, the largest dam in Hubei Province. There is a long historic celebrity culture and folk-custom culture, rich resources of Chinese medicine and special ecological environment.

The university holds all kinds of advanced teaching facilities. The campus is so beautiful that the students take it as an ideal place to study
